Eating healthy food everyday all comes down how well you plan! It’s you planning your trips to the grocery store, cooking the meals and having healthy snacks readily available.

The term healthy is going to look different for everyone. The key to this concept is choosing something that works for you. If meal prepping every single meal does not work for you, then stick to 1 meal that you are more likely to eat skip or order takeout and make that your priority.

Ultimately, the goal of eating healthy should be centered around what you want to see happen. This could be losing weight, beginning a journey to living a healthy lifestyle or simply because you want to!

1. Plan your meals

The key to eating healthy meals is all in your preparation. Take the weekend to plan your meals. These meals should be super easy, healthy and realistic.

There are a few ways you can do this.

You can pick 1 meal that and prep that for entire week. This is convenient because you can cook everything, divide it evenly in your meal prep containers and have your meals ready for the week!

Another way you can do this is ingredient based meal prepping where you buy your protein, veggies, healthy carbs and healthy fats. This gives you the opportunity to get creative with your meals so that you are not eating the same meals everyday.

This can look like:

  • Protein: chicken, ground turkey, salmon, lean ground beef

  • Veggies: asparagus, green beans, zucchini, squash, butternut squash, mushrooms

  • Healthy carbs: brown rice, jasmine rice, sweet potatoes, gold potatoes

  • Healthy fats: avocados, nuts, dressings, nut butters

2. Create your grocery list

Now that you know what you want to cook it’s time to create your grocery list and head over to the grocery store.

Take your meals that you planned in step 1 and create your grocery list. Make sure you buy ample food so that you have enough to last you the entire week.

When you’re in the grocery store, your staples are found in the perimeter of the store. Think produce, meats and dairy. Your staples lay the foundation for your meals.

Don’t forget about your fun snacks!

3. Cook your meals

Now that you have those groceries, it’s time to prep those meals!

Set aside at least 1 hour to cook your meals. Put some comfy clothes on, pour a glass, turn your favorite playlist on and let’s get cooking!

The more you prep the less time you spend guessing on what you’re going to eat. When eating healthy is the goal, stick to what you know and the rest will come.

5. Have snacks on hand!

You’re going to get hungry and want to snack throughout the day. Totally normal!

Make sure you have healthy snacks on hand like yogurt and fruit, apples, grapes and crackers and hummus.
